Range, habitat

Tawny Grassbirds are found along the north and east coast of Australia, ranging from about Broome, WA, to Sydney, NSW, and the seaward slopes of the near-coastal ranges. They are not found inland.

Tawny Grassbirds live in swamps or reeds, e.g. in estuaries of rivers.

Sightings

A Tawny Grassbird was first spotted by us at Old Bar, NSW, in the estuary of the Manning River, in September 2011.
